The communities of Marysville and Marshall County are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Ryan Friedrichs, a 41-year-old man who died Monday following a devastating collision between an industrial farm sprayer and a Union Pacific train in northeast Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. at a railroad crossing near 675 Harvest Road. Investigators reported that Friedrichs was operating an industrial sprayer southbound on a private driveway just south of Harvest Road when the vehicle failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the railroad crossing.

Authorities say the sprayer was struck by a westbound train, resulting in a catastrophic impact that ejected Friedrichs from the vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

The crash also left two train conductors injured. Both were transported to Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville, where they received treatment for serious injuries.
